Professional Development Time. The following Section 2 is contingent on full levy funding. The District will provide and direct the equivalent of two (2) professional development days during the course of each contract year. Payment for professional development time covered by this section is available to staff that attend and participate in professional development activities and document their participation on a building attendance roster. Leave, such as sick, emergency, personal, bereavement, etc., will not be permitted.

Professional Development Time. Executive shall be entitled to a period of fifteen (15) days per year (accrued fully at the beginning of each calendar year) of Professional Development Time to attend conventions or continuing education seminars or any other reason approved by the Board, in its reasonable discretion. There shall be a carryover of such time from year to year. However, no compensation shall be paid to Executive for any unused Professional Development Time upon termination of this Agreement.
Professional Development Time. To support the standard employment contract expectation to grow professionally, staff members will participate in individual and collegial activities such as self- reflection, goal setting, workshops, classes, conferences or other collaborative meetings to support student learning. In order to make effective use of the available student release time within the standard contract, including but not limited to early release days, the time will be allocated as follows:  50 percent self-directed  50 percent District-directed The schedule of this time shall be determined through a building-level decision making process.
Professional Development Time. Since professional development is most meaningful when it meets the needs of the staff, a functioning building professional development committee should determine the program of professional development for their building. Professional development time shall be held on days on which the district applies for and receives waivers of the length of the minimum school day. Under no circumstances shall the unit member workday/work year be increased due to these waivers. Unit members will attend up to one (1) hour of staff meetings per month beyond the teacher duty day as determined by the building level administrator with input on the agenda from the staff. Those absent from the staff meeting without prior depending on the circumstances may be required to make up the meeting. Unit members shall have the entire last duty day before the first student day to work in their classrooms to prepare for the students’ arrival. There shall be no required meetings or training on this day.
Professional Development Time. To assist teachers in continually improving the instructional program, professional development will include frequent and regular periods designed to provide continuing teacher support, opportunities for teacher collaboration and joint planning, and assessment of the impact of innovations on student achievement. These opportunities will be scheduled during the school day without decreasing students’ instructional time. Additional teacher in-service half days or full days may be scheduled as needed.
Professional Development Time. A teacher planning to use professional development time shall confer with and obtain approval from his/her principal at least one (1) week in advance of his/her absence. The teacher shall leave complete plans and adequate materials for substitute use. The Board shall provide for a substitute teacher and reimburse for agreed upon fees, housing, mileage and meals. When possible, members of staff who share responsibilities will attend the same conference to consolidate expenses.

Professional Development Time. Professional development activities include personal growth, professional and career development activities which may reasonably be construed as work related.
Professional Development Time. The parties reaffirm the substantive terms of Paragraph 11/5/1 on the basis of the arbitration award issued by Arbitrator Xxxxxxx and dated August 5, 1998. Bargaining unit members have five (5) days of “professional development” time off during each calendar year. Such time does not have some of the attributes of “vacation,” i.e., it cannot be carried over from year to year, but it does not have to be work related. It is additional time off to be used for fulfillment of “personal professional needs.” The Employer may only deny a request for such available leave for operational reasons. Employees may use such days at their individual discretion for the employee’s professional needs or to satisfy any other unrestricted personal professional needs as deemed appropriate by the employee. The Employer is obligated to grant the leave whenever operations permit and is not entitled to information as to the specific reason(s) for use of the leave. If the Employer approves the leave, but then has reason to believe that the employee has abused this provision, the Employer is then free to investigate the matter and, if appropriate, take disciplinary action for just cause, as it could do in the case of abuse of other types of leave.
