Sick time definition

Sick time means time that is provided by an employer to an employee that can be used for the purposes described in subdivision a of section 20-914 of this chapter, whether or not compensation for that time is required pursuant to this chapter.

• Sick time may be taken for the following purposes: • For an employee's own illness or to care for a sick family member, or for bone marrow donation or organ donation by the employee or a family member.

• Sick time will (would) be able to be used during family medical leave time (FMLA).

• Sick time is not to be used by employees as vacations or simply to take time off with pay; but employees shall not be disciplined for the legitimate use of earned and accrued sick time for medically-related reasons.

• Sick time, up to 960 hours or 120 days, will be exchanged for months of continued health insurance coverage (individual or family) until the sick time is depleted.

Sick time means time off from work that has been earned and accrued and may be used by an Employee under this Chapter and which that is calculated at the same hourly rate and with the same benefits, including health care benefits, as the Employee normally earns during hours worked and is provided by an Employer to an Employee at the accrual rate described in Section 9.01.040030 and for the purposes described in Section 9.01.050.

Sick time or “protected sick time” means an unpaid absence from work for an authorized reason, without a reduction in other employee benefits. An employee may not be disciplined for using protected sick time in accordance with this rule.

Sick time or “Sick Day” shall refer to University Hospital accrued Sick Time or Sick Day to differentiate from New Jersey Earned Sick Leave time. Regular employees, shall accrue one (1) sick day per month based upon the standard day for their classification as defined Section 5.08, Standard Day, including those scheduled on a twelve (12) hour basis, shall accrue sick days on the basis of one (1) eight hour day per month, except that Regular full time employees working 7.5 hour days shall accrue sick days on the basis of one (1) 7.5 hour day per month. Regular part time employees shall be credited for accrued sick time on a pro- rated basis. Unused University Hospital sick time is cumulative.
