Base fluid definition

Base fluid means the continuous phase fluid used in the makeup of a well stimulation treatment fluid. The continuous phase fluid may include, but is not limited to, water, and may be a liquid or a hydrocarbon or nonhydrocarbon gas. A well stimulation treatment may use more than one base fluid.
Base fluid means the continuous phase fluid type,
Base fluid means the continuous phase or suspending medium of a drilling fluid formulation.

Examples of Base fluid in a sentence

  • Base fluid typically consists of only fresh water (surface, groundwater, or municipal water) or a mixture of fresh water, reused/recycled UOG produced water, and/or other sources (e.g., treated municipal wastewater, groundwater) (126 DCN SGE00639; 136 DCN SGE00575).

  • As mentioned above, a factor to consider is the increased use of synthetic drilling fluids, which are not allowed to be discharged under the current Cook Inlet General Permit, although discharge of associated cuttings is allowed if the applicable effluent limitation for Base fluid retained on drill cuttings are met.

  • Base fluid typically consists of only fresh water (surface, groundwater, or municipal water) or a mixture of fresh water, reused/recycled UOG produced water, and/or other sources (e.g., treated municipal wastewater, groundwater) (97 DCN SGE00639; 70 DCN SGE00575).

  • A factor to consider regarding changes meant to reduce the discharge of drilling fluids since 1993 is the increased use of synthetic drilling fluids, which are not allowed to be discharged under the current Cook Inlet General Permit, although discharge of associated cuttings is allowed if they meet the applicable effluent limitation for Base fluid retained on drill cuttings.

  • Base fluid was prepared by the addition of 15 g of bentonite to 350 cc of fresh water and stirred continuously for 15 minutes using 11,000 rpm mixer.

More Definitions of Base fluid

Base fluid means the continuous phase fluid type, such as water, used in a hydraulic fracturing treatment.
Base fluid means the continuous phase fluid type, including, but not limited to, water, nitrogen gas, or other gas used in a high volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing operation. (Section 1-5 of the Act). “Base fluid” shall also include both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon fluids in gas and or liquid form used in high volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing operations. Calculation and reporting of volumes for all base fluid shall be for the normal volume that the base fluid would occupy at 20° C and one atmosphere (National Institute of Standards and Technology Standard Temperature and Pressure, or “STP”). If part or all of the base fluid will contain any component that at STP would exist in a gaseous state, then, regardless of whether said component is transported or injected or combined in any other form or at any other temperature or pressure, or whether when mixed with other substances the component forms a foam or gel or other dispersion, the volume of that component shall be calculated and reported as the uncompressed volume at STP for all purposes under these rules.

Base fluid means the continuous phase fluid, such as water, which is used in a particular Hydraulic Fracturing Treatment.
Base fluid means the continuous phase or suspending medium of a drill- ing fluid formulation.
Base fluid means any fluid type used in a particular hydraulic fracturing treatment, including, but not limited to, water (including surface water, groundwater, produced water and recycled water) or nitrogen gas and foam fluids, and hydrocarbon gas.
Base fluid means a lubricating fluid whose flow, ageing, lubricity and anti-wear properties, as well as its properties regarding contaminant suspension, have not been improved by the inclusion of additive(s);
