Terms and Concepts. Many faculty members consistently demonstrate exceptional levels of performance in all three areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. In any given year a faculty member may elect to concentrate their energies on one area more than another; however, as a whole, for the five-year period of time leading up to application for being considered for advancement in continuation, promotion and/or tenure, a cumulative rating of “Meets Expectations” is expected on all three areas of teaching, scholarship and service as indicated on Appendix E. A faculty member “meets expectations” when he/she gives the overall impression of an active, engaged academic as evidenced by achievement in all three areas.
