NPWS* must develop and implement an EMS*, which: • Contains an environmental policy for all organisational operations and responsibilities. • Provides for environmental planning and assessment processes for NPWS* activities. • Sets environmental objectives and targets, and implementation measures to achieve them. • Includes management guidelines for ESFM*. • Includes processes for monitoring, evaluation of performance and adaptive management. The EMS* must be implemented by 1 April 2004. To facilitate implementation of the EMS*, NPWS* staff and contractors must continue to receive appropriate competency based training.
