Alternate Day Off. Any full-time employee who is scheduled for a day off on a day which is observed as a legal holiday, except Sundays, shall be entitled to receive a day off with pay either on the day preceding the holiday or another day following the holiday in the same pay period or as scheduled by the employee and his/her supervisor, whichever allows a day off in addition to the employee's regularly scheduled days off, provided the employee is in a pay status on his/her last regularly scheduled working day immediately before the holiday or on his/her first regularly scheduled working day immediately after the holiday. Alternate Day Off. At the discretion of the Director of Public Safety, holiday pay may be authorized for Public Safety Lieutenants and Commanders who are directed to work on any holiday observed by the City. Holiday Pay may be approved in lieu of granting the employee an alternate day off. Holiday Pay is calculated on a straight time basis.

When the Employer is given two (2) weeks advance notice in writing, the employee may request the option of being scheduled for an alternate day off no more than thirty (30) calendar days after the holiday, without pay, in lieu thereof if the employee worked the holiday. PTO time may not be used for this alternate day off.
